Rev. Jim Sanders,
Pastor
Rev. Sanders, a North Carolina native who grew up primarily in High Point but considers Belmont his hometown, has a B.S. in Communications (with a focus on Advertising) from Appalachian State University and an M.Div. from Duke Divinity School. He started out as an advertising copywriter, worked for a long season managing corporate communications for an industry-leading international manufacturer, then settled into what he thought was a permanent career directing marketing and communications for Old Salem and the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (now known collectively as Old Salem Museums & Gardens) in Winston-Salem. A lifelong Methodist/United Methodist, he spent many years as a busy layperson at Centenary UMC in Winston-Salem before sensing a call to ministry as a vocation in the fall of 1999. Before being appointed to First UMC of North Wilkesboro in July 2020, he pastored congregations in Thomasville, Mocksville, Jonesville, State Road, Crouse, and Lincolnton. He and his dog, Butch, are enjoying the benefits of “mountain living.”
