Children are considered an integral part of our church family at First United Methodist of North Wilkesboro. It is our desire to do all we can to minister to them and their families, help them to grow in their knowledge of God and to experience His love for them through the programs, activities and mission opportunities that we offer.
School pick-up is provided to the church from various area elementary schools each Wednesday. Programming is from 3:30 PM - 5:45. Wacky Wednesday includes snack, recreation, Bible lesson, choir, tone chimes, arts & crafts and drumming. The program is for children pre-K through 5th grade. The children prepare to lead in worship through music and present special musicals at Christmas and in the spring. A Children's Sabbath is celebrated each year in October. Recreational outings and mission activities are also a part of the program.
K - 5th Grade | Sundays 9:45am
All children meet in the Godly Play Room (1st floor) for a time of learning bible stories and participating in hands-on activities.
A well-staffed Nursery is provided for infants through 2 year olds during both the 8:45 AM and 10:55 AM Worship services and the 9:45 AM Sunday School hour.
We offer a Children's Church for children 3 years through 2nd grade. The children leave the 10:55 Worship Service after the Children's Time. A creative activity and Bible Lesson are provided during the sermon portion of the service.

You are welcome here! Everyone belongs! During the school year we meet on Sunday nights from 5-7
We begin by having dinner together to talk about our week, to laugh, and just be with one another, then we play games and have a lesson. The goal, no matter what the lesson, is to show students how much they are loved by God and to give them a place to consistently experience that love. We have a small group atmosphere that creates a unique space for genuine conversation. You do not have to leave your brain at the door here, questions are welcomed and encouraged. We are all on a journey and we are here to wrestle together through our questions and doubts AND to celebrate together in our victories!
What we believe?
We believe in a triune God (father, son, holy spirit). We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully human and fully divine. Jesus lived a life that perfectly shows us how we are to live with one another. Jesus model for us is not an easy path to follow but it is the one that will transform us into the best versions of ourselves. Jesus death on the cross was the ultimate expression of love and when he rose on the third day proved that not even death can separate us from God. We believe that ALL people are of sacred worth and that all are welcome at the table of God. We believe that scripture is authoritative and divinely inspired by God and is the best avenue to understanding our lives as Christians. We believe that God has given us a questioning mind for a reason and ask that you bring your questions to the table. We believe that faith is something that should change us and challenge us. We believe that God is RELEVANT for this generation just as God has been relevant in every generation before us AND in all generations to come. We believe that God is ACTIVE in our lives and seeks to lead us in the way we should go (Psalm 32:8).
Sixth graders at First United Methodist Church wrestle with the questions of faith alongside mentors and our church staff. This interactive and creative class is designed to prepare students for membership in The United Methodist Church and give them a Christian foundation that will be with them through life.
Stay tuned for the dates of the next Confirmation Class! If you have a sixth grader or rising sixth grader, we would love for them to be a part of our time together. Please let Pastor Tim or Lauren know. We can be reached at the church office at 336-838-2691.
